UK based company Plastic Logic has finally revealed its Que e-book reader which could now go into competition with the Amazon Kindle reader. The lightweight device, which features touch screen controls was on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The Que is the result of over ten years of research and development at Cambridge University in the UK. It’s estimated that the R&D program cost more than $ 200m.

The reader incorporates 3G wireless connectivity and has a large format black and white screen. It is considerably more expensive than Amazon’s Kindle and is targeted at “mobile professionals”.

There are two models. The 4GB model has a price tag of $ 649 and the 8 GB has sells for $ 799. The Kindle 2.0 and the larger Kindle DX (which is probably more comparable with the Que) sell for $ 259 and $ 489 respectively. There is enough memory capacity in the 4GB model around 35,000 documents. The 8GB model will hold 75,000 documents – equivalent to 75 filing cabinets.

According to Plastic Logic, the Que is “more than an eReader”. It features a massive 10.7 inch shatterproof display – currently the biggest of any e-book reader in the world. Apart from the sheer size, the display is notable for the fact that it is made of plastic rather than glass. As a result it is more durable, surprisingly flexible and lighter.

The overall dimensions of the device are 8.5 X 11 X 0.33 inches and it weighs in at less than a typical periodical – around about one pound. It will be a bit like carrying a pad of letter sized paper around with you.

Notwithstanding the fact that the Que is more than an e-book reader, Plastic Logic have partnered with Barnes and Noble who will supply books for the device. Partnerships with newspapers, for example USA Today, are also in place.

Que users will be able to choose from over 700,000 books on the Barnes and Noble website. Amazon currently have around 400,000 Kindle books available for their Kindle reader – but this selection is increasing at a rate of over 500 titles daily.

The shipping date has been set as mid April 2010. Customers can purchase it from either the Que website or from the Barnes and Noble website.

Golf is the sport of kings, according to someone. At the very least, you should have a good amount of money to purchase the equipment and pay the green fees at golf courses. The main concept of golf is simple. Knock a ball with a stick in the direction of the hole. Nothing is ever so perfectly simple, though. Golf is most often played on outdoor courses, with targets hundreds of meters away from the tee, and infested with hazards to make play exciting. It goes without saying, then, golfers need as much advice as possible to enjoy the the game. Golf Buddy Pro GPS.

Golf GPS systems are the newest tools to help you to impress your golf buddies. These useful gadgets are stuffed with a cornucopia of knowledge ideal for the weekend warrior, the professional player, or anyone in between. There are many GPS-based devices, such as watches and plain positioning modules, but these are designed specifically for golfers using a course. They are not going to be much use on the driving range: a golfer doesn’t need GPS as they are driving balls from a fixed location.

Golf GPS systems are intended to be employed outdoors, so as as result they have autonomous power sources. You are likely to enjoy several hours on the golf course, especially with all the socializing, so you need a gadget which has long battery life. A GPS system is only of value if it’s on, after all. Golf GPS systems are usually small enough to be carried in a large pocket, or to be clipped to the waist.

LCD displays are a central feature of golf GPS systems. The display image differs from model to model and manufacturer, but they are all common because they can download and display information useful to a golfer. As a result, they are predictably large, clear, bright and anti-reflective, so that you can see them even outside under the blazing sun. Golf Buddy Pro GPS.

The satellite information transferred to the golf GPS systems is the technology which makes these devices possible. The simplest downloadable data available is coordinates that correspond to the holes on golf courses. More sophisticated data packages will give you aerial and satellite pictures that allow you to know about hazards around doglegs, so you can anticipate course conditions and choose the correct club. Different companies have their own data packages, so any consumer looking to buy a golf GPS system ought to look into what kind of detail they want. Note that several brands also need subscriptions to use these, while others do not.

Loaded with course information and GPS abilities accurate within centimeters, Golf GPS systems can compute distances between hazards and holes. This device can enable you to plan your route, choose the perfect club, and come in under par for a satisfying day on the green. More advanced applications of GPS technology are able to give you your shot yardage, play suggestions, and more. Make it a point to check the complete range of applications of any golf GPS system in advance of buying it, since all golf GPS systems are not created equal. Golf Buddy Pro GPS.

Ultimately, ability shall always be the prerequisite of playing a successful golf game, but golf GPS systems will still prove to be useful!
