Video games vs movies? Indeed, the video game industry has taken a big junk out of the movie industry. The movie industry is faced with stiff competition as video games become more and more like movies. Is this the end of of the sliver screen era?

Is Hollywood about to go under? What do you prefer? If it was video games vs movies, which one would you choose? Video games give you a sense of power. Games like Call Of Duty Modern Warfare make you feel like your own movie hero saving the world from the bad guys. Video games put you in the story itself, a story that you are in control of. Now video games give me a feeling of power and excitement and that is hard to resist?

Since good games offers a player hundreds of hours of potential game play the movie industry can not get these people into the theaters.

There, however, is still hope for the movies. It is only human nature to expect the worse, for example, when movies came out over a hundred years ago, people really thought that would be the end of reading. Over sixty years ago, when the boob tube, TV, came out people again thought that would be the end of movies. People thought when video games hit the shelves say goodbye to TV.

No, the world never came to an end. Why? I don’t think its surprising that the more people have the more people want. More stores means more costumers, so developers do their best at cramming in as many stores as possible into one location.

Video games vs movies, is this comparison possible? Not really. They are two different things. Video games are active, movies are more passive.

They both offer different experiences, for different times of day and moods. Being active is not always for me. A video game is like partaking in sports. Traditionally movies are passive experiences, the light is reflected from the movie screen into your eyes, like the moon light. Movies are a chance to sit back relax and enjoy a story, like in the days of yore when we would sit under the moon light and tell a story. What does a video game offer, active participation where I can be a winner, a hero.

The problem with Hollywood is getting people into the cinema, and the way they do it is either creating gimmicks like real 3D, or combining the film concept with a video game release. It is true that their might be less and less movie goers, but now we do not even have to leave the comfort of our home with VOD. Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best movie style video games of all time.

Well I got he game for Christmas and had mixed feelings about what to expect. I was hyped as the previous installment was the best game I played all of last year. I was a little wary as it was going back to the World War 2 settings. I had also heard mixed reviews from friends and colleagues stating it was good but not as good as Modern Warfare.

So, my first thoughts. It pretty much follows the exact same game play and graphics as Modern Warfare, so looks like its just the story that has changed and although I didn’t want it to go back to WWII I am really enjoying it. Here’s the list of current missions that make up the game:

Semper Fi
Little Resistance
Hard Landing
Vendetta
Their Land, Their Blood
Burn ‘em Out
Relentless
Blood & Iron
Ring of Steel
Eviction
Black Cats
Blowtorch & Corkscrew
Breaking Point
Heart of the Reich
Downfall

I am currently up to Blood & Iron, so reckon I am roughly half way through the game. At this point I have already completed missions as both the US and Russian soldiers and have completed missions including the Sniper Rifle in “Vendetta”, and the newly added Flamethrower in “Burn Em Out”.

Here’s hoping there are still a few surprises left in the game for me.

Call of Duty 5 is due to hit the shelves on 11 November, and Activision have gone back to CoD’s roots and have set the follow up to Modern Warfare back in World War II this time turning to the Pacific front with some key new features including:

Harsh New Enemies, Environments and Tactics: Face off against ruthless and tactically advanced enemies that will stop at nothing to defend their homelands, from swamp ambushes and tree-top snipers to fearless Kamikaze attacks. Play as a U.S. Marine and Russian conscript across a variety of Pacific and European locations against the fearless Imperial Japanese and elite German soldiers in epic adrenaline-filled infantry, vehicle and airborne missions.

Co-Op Campaign Mode, Call of Duty Style: For the first time in the franchise, Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-op play, bringing fresh meaning to No One Fights Alone. Campaign co-op features up to four-players online, or two-player local split-screen, allowing gamers to experience harrowing campaign missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. Co-op mode incorporates innovative multiplayer components such as challenges, rankings and online stats for deeper re-playability and multiplayer experience bonuses. Co-op mode also features Competitive Co-Op that will show who is really the best player on your team.

Enhanced Innovative Multiplayer: Call of Duty: World at War continues the addictive class-based multiplayer action the series is famous for. The addition of vehicle combat with tanks rounds out the highly-successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer experience, and features such as persistent stats, player rankings, upgradeable weapons, squad-based gameplay, customizable classes and Perks, have been further enhanced to set a new standard in Call of Duty online war.

The Authentic Call of Duty Experience: Built using the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War utilizes cutting-edge technology including highly-detailed character models, self-shadowing, environmental lighting and amazing special effects to deliver jaw-dropping visuals. Depth of field, rim-lighting and texture-streaming technology bring the adrenaline-pumping combat to life, while physics-enabled battlefields and fire that spreads through environments realistically immerses players into the harrowing and dynamic combat.
