The most recent release of Sony’s gaming portables is PSP Go, disclosed in the autumn of 2009 at the E3 expo. The PSP Go features are significantly improved on previous models in the line, and come together to offer a stylish and practical differentiation to the regular series.

The initial, and likely most discussed, of the PSP Go features to vary from classic models is the lack of a UMD drive. Previous models have used this media conduit for both gaming and movies, but the PSP Go does away with it completely. As an alternative, Sony intend for all software on the PSP Go to be downloaded onto the sixteen GB of built-in memory. This bold ploy will be facilitated by the PS store, which is compiling amassive library of games and films to be provided to the PSP Go features.

The previously mentioned 16 GB of memory is flash based, and can be maxed to 32 GB with a memory stick micro. This PSP Go feature delivers a vast stock of memory so players won’t be stuck for room. The screen is a touch reduced since the PSP 3000, but offers a much more focussed picture at 480×272 pixels. Thecompact screen layer is slid upwards to reveal the buttons and directional pad, which also includes an analogue stick as before.

The PSP Go retains all of the fundamental features of its progenitor, including wi-fi functioning and access to the PS store both individually or via a PS3. Sony are busying themselves to make all prior UMDs accessible through the store, and game players can also find ‘Minis’, a new range of cheaper games from fan-favourite ranges like Tetris and Megaman.
